Life Changer

How I got into stand up for real was straightforward: our flatmate at the time got home some afternoon and told me that she had tickets for the live stand up event the following weekend and asked me if I would like to go.
I was very happy and jumped at the chance straight away. I remember eagerly anticipating the show for the rest of the week.
On the evening of the gig, I found myself exceptionally full of excitement.
I experienced a feeling that here was an evening which was going to change my existence.

The 1st occasion on which I ever witnessed a live stand up comedy show was in the most famous comedy club Birmingham has to offer. This was a couple of years ago now, however I recall it like it was yesterday. I think it is probably one of my best 5 memories. It's on an equal footing with the day my parents finally let me have a dog, the first time I went to a live music gig and the night my eldest daughter was born.

I had always enjoyed watching stand-up on telly. I began watching mostly situational comedies and comedic films, however then I began watching a greater amount of stand up comics. There is constantly the danger that the crowd would not appreciate the comedian: this had an element of risk. In addition I adore watching comedians coping with hecklers. There are times the hecklers can win, however most of the time the stand ups would come up with a hilarious reply that will shut them right up.

I will forever recall the sensation when I walked in to a comedy club for the 1st night. The ambiance was really unique. To me it seemed electric. I quickly realised exactly what I planned to do with my existence. I planned to become a standup. It's been almost nine years, but since that evening I have turned my fantasy in to a reality. The first show I performed was at a cramped basement standup establishment. That was rather unlike the large glitzy London comedy club I had experienced my 1st gig in, but it was a break. I struggled on, and nowadays I appear in regular shows at a number of the comedy clubs Leicester has to offer. I'm a tremendously lucky person because I adore my job.
